The Dragons baseball team took the field with many expectations this year, and they did well in fulfilling their goals, making it a season to remember.
Some great and memorable accomplishments this year included earning the No. 2 seed in the Sunset League. This helped the team host their very first playoff game in Del Sol baseball history as well as achieve their very first playoff victory in history. As you can see, the boys made history.
“I am very proud of the young men for competing this season and earning many firsts for Del Sol,” Head Coach Jorge Romero said. “Always work for what you want, always work for your family and always work so all your drams will come true. I love you guys.”
More great accomplishments included dominating their Senior Day game vs. Valley High School, competing against every team throughout the season and making the playoffs. There were also many players who were recognized and earned All-League honors. Those players were:
Gelkis Digurnay (Third baseman) – 1st Team All-sunset League and 2nd Team All-Southern Nevada
Logan Morgan (Pitcher) – 2nd Team All-Sunset League
Bradley Walton (Utility) – 2nd Team All-Sunset League
Jose Galicia (Second baseman) – 2nd Team All-Sunset League
Javier Marti (First baseman) – 2nd Team All-Sunset League
These players will compete in the All-Star Game Tuesday, May 21 at Faith Lutheran at 3:00 p.m.
There are also multiple players who are expecting to attend college and further their baseball career. Those players include Digurnay, Morgan, Walton, Galicia and Marti. Their college choices are still being decided by the players and their families. Good luck, Dragons!
Sadly, Coach Romero has officially resigned as the Del Sol Head Baseball Coach. After six strong and successful years, he has decided to part ways with his Del Sol family and focus on other aspects of life. He will always love and cherish everyone he has met at Del Sol and every moment spent with the teams he has coached.
“I am very grateful to the current and past administration for their support and the opportunity given to me,” Coach Romero said. “I am thankful for the six years I had with Del Sol and meeting some great young men and staff. Thank you to my family, coaches, parents and supporters for all the wonderful years. I will never forget my time at Del Sol and will always cheer for Del Sol. Go Dragons!”
Overall, Coach Romero is proud of the team and is happy for the successful 2019 season. His experience here at Del Sol will be one close to his heart.
“I am very proud of what my coaches and I have accomplished in the six years at Del Sol,” Coach Romero said. “I will never forget the wonderful student athletes that we coached and have watched grow into positive role models and, more importantly, good persons. We went through many ups and some downs but the experience has made me a better coach and a much better person. I will cheer on the players that will remain at Del Sol and hope they succeed on and off the field.”
We will miss you, Coach Romero! We wish you the best in all your future endeavors.
