The DSA cheer team has their pom poms in hand ready to show off their stunts.
Early in the season, the team had some adjusting to do. With a new coach and team adversity, things weren’t quite as they pictured. But things quickly changed when the team attended a mixxedfit class where they all bonded tremendously.
“I felt like that event helped us grow closer as a team and helped us be able to work together through all of our differences,” Head Coach Melody Mays said.
The team also had their cheer camp over the summer that helped bring the team even closer. They played games and worked on stunting, which built a lot of trust throughout the group.
“It is very important that the team bonds and trusts each other because then we will be able to do great things and put on great performances for Del Sol,” Coach Mays said.
Now that the team has bonded and grown closer together, they are ready for a promising season.
“I believe that the cheer team is doing really well so far,” Coach Mays said. “We had some adjusting that occurred at the beginning of the year and everything now is starting to look more and more promising. It’s going to be a great season.”
Now the team is working hard on improving their talents and mastering new skills. In fact, they have been practicing more advanced stunts and pyramids and have been working very hard to build their muscles and stamina to accomplish individual and team goals this season. Soon they will be headed to the weight room to build their strength.
“Our goals for the rest of the season is to simply grow in our skills constantly,” Coach Mays said. “We have an elite competition team and, of course, the goal for them is to be undefeated!”
Coach Mays is very proud of the team so far, especially because they are mastering new skills in tumbling, stunting, flexibility and jumps and because they are motivated and driven to be better cheerleaders. She grows more and more proud of them every week.
“You guys are doing an AMAZING job so far!” Coach Mays said. “Keep up the good work! Let’s go Dragons!”
The team’s next competition is the USA Classic, which is on January 11. Good luck Dragons!
