Girls Varsity Volleyball · Girl’s Volleyball Has a Rough Start to Season But Still Has Hope

Hustling, hitting and never quitting is exactly what the Del Sol girl’s volleyball team has been up to this season, no matter the adversity the girls have been facing.

“Our team was hoping to beat last year’s record of five games, but we are off to a rough start with a 2-6 record,” Head Coach Lisa Garry said. “There is still time though! We would love to make it to playoffs this year.”

Some struggles the team has battled this season include playing as a unit and having top-notch passing and team communication, according to Coach Garry. However, although the season has had a rough start, some losses were taken to a fifth set and the Lady Dragons showed up to fight. There is still plenty of hope for this season.

“I am looking forward to improvement and discovering the meaning of teamwork,” Coach Garry said.

One way the team is working on improving their team chemistry as well as their skills and knowledge of the game is to practice often and spend time together.

“We are practicing hard and trying to get experience,” Coach Garry said. “We practice everyday after school as well as most Saturday mornings. We have two tournaments planned for varsity this year and one for each JV and B Team. We are working hard in the gym to get the team together and going to UNLV games as well to watch higher level (volleyball).”

As the season continues, there are many games the team is looking forward to, like the Boulder City Tournament (September 27-28), the last tournament of the season (October 26-25), and Senior Night for their seven seniors (October 28).

Although this season has been difficult for the team, Coach Garry is proud of the girls for sticking through the tough times and trying to find ways to work together.

“They each make me proud individually in different ways and they each bring something unique to the team,” Coach Garry said. “I hope they know how special and important each one of them is to the team. I hope we can find the bind we need to succeed this season!”

The team’s next game is Wednesday, October 2 at 6:00 p.m. They battle Democracy Prep on the road. The team’s next home game is Thursday, October 10 vs. Valley High School. Play begins at 6:00 p.m. so don’t miss out of supporting your Lady Dragons!
