Girls Varsity Soccer · Despite Their 2019 Record, the Girl’s Soccer Team Progressed This Season

The Del Sol Academy girl’s soccer team walked off the field with a 2-11 season record this year and a 1-9 league record. Despite their losing record, Head Coach Herlinda Ruiz feels it was a successful season that helped the team grow and learn together.

“Our soccer program overall made a lot of progress,” Coach Ruiz said. “The team mastered the basic fundamentals and learned to play as a team. Despite our record, we were a tight-knit family. We had a lot of communication and respect for each other.”

Coach Ruiz is proud of this season and is excited for next year and the future seasons to come.

“My proudest moment was watching our team grow together,” Coach Ruiz said. “We have a lot of returning players for next year.”

This season, there were two DSA players who were noticed for their hard work and talents. Michelle Luna was given the MVP 2019 award, and Rosa Perez was given the Lady Dragon 2019 award. Along with those players, Coach Ruiz is grateful for the entire team and is proud of everyone who fought hard to be part of the program.

“All players, I just want to say how proud I am for all of you who stuck it out all season,” Coach Ruiz said.

Next year, Coach Ruiz is excited to not only have a more successful season, but to also help the players improve their skills by joining a club soccer team and help the players improve their grades by implementing a homework study hour before each practice.

Overall, the team is proud of this season with their new head coach and new players from all over the world. This season is looking to be the beginning of something new and something great.
